Wonnell Godfrey, Sr.

“By and by when the morning comes, all the saints of God are gathered home.  We’ll tell the story how we’ve overcome: For we’ll understand it better by and by”.

Wonnell Godfrey, Sr. entered eternal rest on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, Virginia Beach, Virginia.  He was the son of the late Walter Neil Godfrey, Sr. and the late Pearlie Mae Johnson Godfrey.  In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by three brothers:  Garland Godfrey, Sr., Donnell Godfrey (his twin), and Roger Lee Godfrey.

Celebration of Life Service will be Sunday, October 1, 2023, 2:00 p.m. at Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Elizabeth City, North Carolina with Rev. Frederick Godfrey as Eulogist.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  A viewing/visitation will be Saturday, September 30, 2023, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Wonnell leaves to cherish his memories one son; Wonnell Godfrey, Jr., Delray Beach, Florida; one stepdaughter, Shara Slaughter, Elizabeth City, North Carolina; one sister, Jacqueline G. Williams, (Ronny), Elizabeth City, North Carolina; four brothers, Kenneth E. Godfrey (Deidre), Walter N. Godfrey, Jr., (Lynell), Clyndell Godfrey (Pamela), and Gilbert Godfrey (Sarah), all of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; one grandson, Shamar Montrey Godfrey, Virginia Beach, Virginia; one granddaughter, Kalia Reign Godfrey, Delray Beach, Florida, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
