Obituary

"Since you went away the days grow long, and soon I'll hear the old winter song; but I will miss you most of all my darling when autumn leaves start to fall."

Judith D. Griffith was born to the late Horace and Eula Davis on October 28, 1929 in Pasquotank County, Elizabeth City, North Carolina.  Judith was a graduate of P.W. Moore High School in Elizabeth City. After graduating from high school, she married her high school sweetheart Irvin Grandy.  From this union a baby girl, Jacqueline Sealy, was born.  Judith and Norman Griffith, her second husband, brought Darryl Griffith into the world.

Judith, called “Nana” by many in her family, had a passion for sewing and dressmaking.  She took a job at Montgomery Ward where she worked as a seamstress up until her retirement in 1980. She could not sit down just yet and that is when she met the Woodward family.  Judith worked for the Woodward family from 1981 up until she could not go up there anymore. Lisa and Elizabeth Woodward loved her very deeply.

When Judith began her study of the Bible, she attended the Utica Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and in 1985, she dedicated her life to Jehovah and symbolized her dedication by water baptism.  She was fondly known as “Sister Griffith” and for many, “Griff.”  She maintained her faith and devoted her life to Jehovah down to her very last breath. She was one of the most senior members of her congregation and she loved them so deeply. She adored her spiritual brothers and sisters very much and they adored her as well.  Sister Griffith always managed to maintain a smile and positive attitude through the various challenges she experienced in life.

When Judith recently traveled back to her hometown of Elizabeth City, to be with her son Darryl, she became ill and subsequently fell asleep in death on January 8, 2023.  Her parents Horace and Eula Davis, her children Jacqueline Sealy, Gregory Lewis and her great-great grandson Amari Overton, precede her in death.

Her son Darryl Griffith; her grandchildren Reginald Overton, Tammy Overton, Daquan Griffith, Daeon Williams, Dejah Griffith, D’ana (Di-ana) Griffith, Darryl Griffith and Caden Griffith; her great grandchildren Taneyah Overton, Jaedaeh (Jaydah) Grant, Sanai Griffith and Daye Griffith; and her uncle Lourdest Taylor survive Judith.

Services will be conducted Friday, January 20th in Brooklyn, New York & burial will take place on Monday, January 23rd at the Woodbridge Memorial Gardens in Woodbridge, New Jersey
