Mr. Gene Daryl Harney entered eternal rest on October 12, 2022 at Sentara Albemarle Medical
Center, Elizabeth City, North Carolina. He was the son of Jessie and Marjorie Taylor Harney of
Elizabeth City, North Carolina and the husband of Crystal L. Harney of Elizabeth City, North
Carolina.
Celebration of Life Services will be Sunday, October 23, 2022, 1:00 p.m. at Beach River Funeral
Home Chapel, Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Viewing and Family Visitation will be Saturday,
October 22, 2022 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Albert G.
Horton Memorial Veteran Cemetery, Suffolk, Virginia.

Along with his parents and wife, Gene leaves to cherish his memories: three sons, Jack
Thompson, New York, NY, Emaja Strother, Charlottesville, Va. and Carlee Griffin, Elizabeth
City, NC; six daughters, Genique Harney, Elizabeth City, NC, Reign Harney, New York, NY,
Milliah Burnham, Elizabeth City, NC, Genaya Harney, New York, NY, Sharquaysia Overton,
Elizabeth City, NC and Brittany Harney, New York, NY; one sister, Charisse Sharpe (Percell),
Chesapeake, Va.; maternal grandmother, Marion Taylor, Cumberland, Va.; three uncles,
Benjamin Harney and William Jake Harney (Glennie) both of Elizabeth City, NC and Jimmy
Harney, Yonkers, NY; three aunts, Carolyn Waddy and Sandra Gordon (Johnny) both of
Maryland and Bertha Walker (Robert), Virginia Beach, Va.; eight grandchildren and a host of
other relatives and friends.
