Alberta Jacox Barcliff, formerly of Elizabeth City, North Carolina entered eternal rest on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at her daughter’s residence in Colonial Heights, Virginia. Alberta was the youngest of five children born in Perquimans County North Carolina to the late Demothenese David Jacox and the late Ludie Virginia Armstrong Jacox and the widow of the late Harry Barcliff. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Demothenese Jacox (Ann) and Jesse Jacox and two sisters, Faye Hines, and Ella M. Hines (George).
Celebration of Life Service will be Tuesday, October 3, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church, Elizabeth City, North Carolina with Rev. Dr. Ricky L. Banks as Eulogist. Interment will be in the West Lawn Cemetery, Elizabeth City, North Carolina. A viewing/visitation will be Monday, October 2, 2023, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will be receiving friends beginning Sunday, October 1 at 603 Witherspoon St., Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
Alberta leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Saundria A. Flythe (Donald), Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Joyce Hicks, Colonial Heights, Virginia, and Pamela Barcliff, Herndon, Virginia; one son, Derrick Barcliff, Sr., Gainesville, Florida; six grandchildren, Eric Williams (Monique), Junius Hicks, III, Melyssa Wood (Robert), Derrick Barcliff, Jr., Michael Snowden and Myah Snowden; seven great grandchildren, Jordan, Kendal, Devin, Ryan, Derrick, III, Jalen and Jason; two sisters-in-law, Ann Jacox and Clottie Barcliff; one brother-in-law, George Hines and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; childhood friend who was like a sister, Ida Aikens and a special daughter, Pat Hopkins.
